Anabelle Mayfield Obituary
Anabelle Lee Mayfield, 88, of Silvis, passed away on Friday, February 20, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 24 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, East Moline. Services will be 11:00 A. M., Wednesday, February 25 also at the church, with Rev. P.W. Harris officiating. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery.
Anabelle Lee Reed was born April 22, 1926 in Centerville, IA, the daughter of Lillian (Bandy) and Harry Reed. She married Claude Mayfield on February 16, 1943 in Centerville, IA. He passed away October 26, 2007.
She graduated from Centerville High School, where she was the fastest female runner at the high school (and proud of it!). She enjoyed being a homemaker. Her dinner rolls were legendary. Anabelle was a talented seamstress, dress maker, and upholsterer working through her own independent business and also for several local retailers. She was very involved in her church, serving as President of the Pastors Aid, Chairman of the Finance Committee and any other area where she was needed. She also served in her community and was a member of the Citizens Advisory Board in East Moline and the PTA. She liked to write poetry and short stories, but most of all she enjoyed being with her family. She especially enjoyed vacations with the Vickerman family with whom she lived for the last few years.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Claudia (Orberie) Giles, East Moline; Craig (Linda) Mayfield, Milwaukee, WI; Reed (Carol) Mayfield, Minneapolis, MN; Leslie (Mike) Vickerman, Silvis; Troy (Kari) Mayfield, Elgin; special cousin Leanne (Phil) Carter, Raleigh, NC; 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Jean, and brothers Harry and Andrew.
