Dolphia Louise O’Dell, of Brentwood, TN formerly of East Moline, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 and went to her heavenly reward. “Dottie” as she was called, was born August 27, 1925 near Dixon Springs, Illinois. Dolphia was the daughter of J.O. Farmer and Myrtle Alice Hopkins Farmer. She had four brothers and one sister, all who have preceded her in death.
She graduated from Golconda High School, Golconda, IL. After World War II had ended, she left Southern Illinois for the Quad Cities area in hopes of finding work. She was a secretary for Ametek Industries, East Moline for 25 years. In 1945 she met and fell in love with her husband, the late Merle E. O’Dell. Her husband was the former Chief of Police for the city of East Moline. He preceded her in death in 1977. Together they raised 3 children; Jeni O’Dell Taylor, East Moline, Spike (Karen) O’Dell, Brentwood, TN, and John (Kathy) O’Dell, Spring Hill, TN. She has 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Dottie also worked 12 years for the Illinois Correctional Department, East Moline, as a secretary. In her retirement she served as the church secretary at Church of Christ, Moline for many years. She left the Quad City area in 2009 moved to the Nashville, Tennessee area where she lived until her death.
Dottie was a Godly woman who never missed a service at church. The Moline Church of Christ opened in 1950; Dottie was an original member. Her home was always open and she was always there to help you if you needed it.
Visitation will be 930-1100 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at the Moline Church of Christ, 4800-38th Avenue, Moline. A graveside service will follow immediately at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to "Living Water Project" 409-Franklin Rd. Brentwood, TN 37027. They provide clean drinking water to poor and undeveloped areas and villages throughout the world.
