Edna Duke, 70, of East Moline, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2019, at Gaines Chapel AME Church, 311-19th Street, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019, at the church. Pastor Tyson Parks will officiate. Burial will be in the Rock Island Arsenal immediately following services. Memorials may be made to New Journey AME Church, Moline, IL.
Edna was born November 12, 1948, the daughter of Ruby Pore. She was united in marriage to James F. Duke, Sr. in 1990, at New Hope Baptist, Moline, IL. He preceded her in death November 4, 2018.
Edna enjoyed baking for her family, shopping, ceramics and yard sales. She was very involved in her children’s lives. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Edna loved the people she took care of at various nursing facilities; she bought gifts for residents when she saw the need.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Vincent (Rachel) Pore, Davenport, Celena (Artuo Martinez) Brown, Davenport, Edgar (Carri) Brown, Davenport, Cassandra (Jonathan) Brown, East Moline; James F. Duke Jr., East Moline, Darin (Danielle) Duke, CO, and Deborah (Morris) Palmer, East Moline; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Gloria Ligion, St. Louis, MO, and Mona Miller, East St. Louis, MO; nephews, Kobie Davis, and Willie Clay, niece; Qiana Davis, special friend, Precious De Laney, East Moline. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Kenric Pore, brother, Calvin, and sister, Joyce Davis Parker.
