Joseph J. Gargano, 94, of Silvis, passed away, Monday, May 27, 2019 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd, 1902-3rd Avenue, East Moline. Burial will follow at The National Cemetery. The visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2019, at the funeral home.

Joseph was born May 17, 1925 in Silvis, Illinois, the son of Jim Gargano and Marie Rango Gargano. He married Carol Johnson and then later married Marilyn Anderson. He was the head of maintenance at the Rock Island Arsenal for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He then became the owner of K&C Appliances retiring in 1999.
Joe was a member of The Civil Defense, Kiwanis, VFW Post 2153, East Moline American Legion Post 227, Fraternal Order of Eagles for over 75 years and CASI. He started the Auxiliary Police Department with Chief George Riggs in 1960 and he was the trainer. Joe served in the US Army. While serving in the Philippines, he incurred injuries. Joe received the Purple Heart Medal. In his younger years, he loved to dance.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Marilyn Gargano; daughter, Mary Erricca (Shalamar) Watford, Davenport; grandchildren, Tracy Watford, Okoiya Watford, both of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Carl Gargano, and sister, Mary Raiche.
