Martin “Marty” Leon Perkins, 61, of East Moline, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018 at home after a short illness.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 27 at Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church, 311-19th Street East Moline. There will be a one hour visitation prior to funeral services. Visitation will be from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 26 at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary Ltd., 1902-3rd Avenue East Moline. Burial will be immediately after the funeral services at Hampton Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Tee Quad-Cities.
Martin was born July 7, 1957 in Moline, Illinois, the son of Robert “Perk” Perkins and Jewell Ray Perkins.
He had been employed as a transportation expeditor at Atlas Roofing, East Moline, last working May, 2018. Martin loved “da” Bears, golfing, traveling to professional sporting events, and playing cards especially “Bid Whist”. Above all, he loved being with his grandkids and family. He was member of Gaines Chapel A. M.E. He was a graduate of UTHS, Class of 1975.
Survivors include his son, Courtney E. Hughes; mother, Jewell J. Perkins; siblings, Claranne Perkins, East Moline, Bob (Chris) Perkins, Rock Island, Bill (Robbin) Perkins, York, PA, Jon Perkins, Washington DC; grandchildren, Avrie Bennett-Hughes, Braylon Bennett-Hughes, Peyton Bennett-Alvarado; Courtney’s fiance, Rikki Bennett and aunt, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-niece, great-nephew, great-great-nieces and extended family; a host of friends including Debra Johnson, Zina Reasby, and a special friend Marisa Luten.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Perk” Perkins.
