Aileen Mom Knight

Aileen "Mom" Knight, 82, of Colona, IL, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline.

Aileen was born May 5, 1934, in Hyden, KY, daughter of George and Malvery Seizemore Bowling.

Aileen retired from Wonder Bread in Davenport, IA, with 28 years of service in the Shipping Department. She later worked at Mar-Kay Plastics in Kansas City, MO as Quality Control. Aileen enjoyed country music, she even taught herself how to play the guitar in her 70s. She loved listening to her daughter, Sherri, sing while her son, Steve, and brother, Bill, played the guitars, as they sat around the campfires. Her animals, Belle and BoBo, were a big part of her life. Aileen owned and operated "Moms" Bait Shop in Cordova, IL, which was also known as the "Home of the Happy Worms." She also owned and operated the American Caf in Silvis until the Railroad closed down in 1982.

Aileen leaves to cherish her memories her son, Bruce Brassfield, Colona, IL; daughter, Sherri Brassfield (Dan) Downing, Silvis, IL; grandchildren, Rhonda, Mike, Steve, Tony, Brad, Ben, Brittany, Joshua, Brady; 20 great-grandchildren, which include Bradley Downing and Brandon Downing; 1 great-great-grandchild; niece, Tammy McCaw, who she raised like a daughter; brother, Bill (Debbie) Bowling, Geneseo, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ernie Brassfield, son, Steve VanDeWalle, brother, George Bowling, and sister, Irene Churchill.
