Amy Nicole (Peyton) Schnauber

Amy Nicole Schnauber, 53, of Davenport, Iowa passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026 at her home.

Funeral services will 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2026 at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline, Illinois.  Visitation will be 3:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2026 at the funeral home.   Chief (Ret) Darryl Howlett will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be at The Rock Island National Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to QC Paws or Scott County Humane Society.

Amy served her Country for 20 active-duty years in the US Navy TAR program as a Yeoman (YN1/AW) - retiring with merit and distinction.  She was a combat veteran, having served boots on ground in a hostile area for over a year during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Additionally, she was attached to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 85, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 85, Navy and Marine Corp Reserve Center Rock Island “The Rock” (where she met and married the love of her life GMC Scott Schnauber) and a myriad of other operational and shore-based Commands.  Her accomplishments were boundless, her pride in service immense; yet she was extremely modest while earning the prestigious Aviation Warfare pin and Army Combat Action Badge, along with a plethora of Commendations and Ribbons.  Amy’s military career exemplified the Navy’s core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment.

For another near decade, Amy served her Country again by becoming a valued employee of the Social Security Administration, Davenport, IA.  She put her Yeoman admin skills back to work - along with her dedicated work ethic, humor, and introduction to the wildly coveted concept of a geedunk drawer (of which has since been duplicated but sadly, never replicated).

Amy’s relationship with her husband Scott was forged in love and built on trust and commitment - truly a testament of how enduring true love can be, given all the time she spent away on deployment and transfers.   Her heart was full at home, also sharing her incredible life with her cats, of whom she got to spend her final days loving, touching, and feeling them love on her in return.  Abigail, Gunner, Wesson, and Colby will miss their mom as nobody could ever compare to Amy’s fierce commitment to their happiness and health.

Amy found and nurtured her chosen circle of friends – her self-made family – her Village.  She was a brilliant and beautiful woman whose strength was matched only by her compassion.  No matter where she was, nor the time of either 2am or 4pm, Amy was always either there or watching over others.  Traveling was never just about the destination; it was about the connection.  Each of us carries a story of a moment when Amy made us feel seen, valued, and important. She never made anyone feel small - only supported, encouraged, and appreciated. She was her Village’s biggest cheerleader and its steady fixer - the one who stepped in, lifted others up, and helped carry their burdens. She poured her heart into creating meaningful moments and lasting memories…

In recent years, Amy faced cancer with strength and grace. Though the illness was relentless, it never diminished her spirit and zest for life.

She was preceded in death by her mother, JoAnn Peyton. She is lovingly cherished by her husband of 19 years, Scott Schnauber; father, James V. Peyton; brother, James Aron Peyton (Mindi); stepbrothers, Rich Smith (Kristin) and James Smith (Jana); and stepmother, Pat Peyton. Amy was also a deeply loved Aunt and Great-Aunt. Amy held a special place in the hearts of Julia Swartzel (Andrew, Lucy, Audrey), Tyler Smith, Kameron Davis, Nicholas Smith, Mason Peyton, Abby Smith, and Brandy Hinkle (Zach, Alice, Logen).
