Arletta Denise (Jones) Holmes

Arletta D. Holmes, 76, of East Moline, IL passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025 at her home.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2025 at Gaines Chapel AME Church, East Moline. Pastor Burns will officiate. Her eulogy will be given by her son, Elder Marc B. Jackson of New Life Community Outreach Ministries, St. Louis, MO.  Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will follow at The Rock Island National Cemetery.   Memorials may be made to the family.

Arletta Denise Jones was born March 21, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois; the daughter of Dennis Jones and Nadine McClinton Jones. She was a 1967 graduate of Kenwood High School, Chicago, Illinois. Arletta held an Associates degree from Black Hawk College. Arletta married James Holmes November 28, 1992 in Chicago, Illinois. He passed August 4, 1999. She was the city clerk for East Moline for 20 years.  Arletta worked for Rock Island County for 28 years. For 10 years of her 28 years,  she was employed as the office manager in the County Clerks office. She was the first African-American female to oversee the JOB TRAINING PARTNERSHIP ACT in Rock Island County.  Arletta worked for South Moline Township and the Quad City Downs as well. She was a member of Gaines Chapel AME Church, East Moline for approximately 40 years.   She was on the Mother Board.  Arletta was a member of various organizations: the Elks, the Eastern Star., city government, and community projects. 

Arletta was a great cook; she will be remembered for her wonderful gumbo and fried chicken.  She enjoyed playing bingo, casinos, traveling, and spending time with her grandkids
