Ben Martin Jr.

Ben Martin, Jr., 88, of Silvis, Illinois passed away Friday, September 20, 2024 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline., Illinois.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2024 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, East Moline, Illinois. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.  Pastor P. W. Harris will officiate.  Burial will be at Rock island National Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Ben Martin Jr. was born November 22, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa: the first child of Ben and Rosave (Washington) Martin.  Ben was a 1953 graduate of United Township High School, East Moline. He served in the United States Air Force.  Ben married Pearl Patterson.  She passed on July 1, 2013. Ben retired from John Deere Harvester where he was a molder.

Ben was an avid bowler, fisherman, and hunter.  He enjoyed gambling and traveling on his motorcycle.  Ben loved his grandchildren dearly.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Robert Wakefield, East Moline, his grandchildren, Gabrielle, Tiffany, Kristi, Robert, Jr., Xavier, and Amara, 7 great-grandchildren, his sister, Phyllis McMullen, Monmouth, his sister-in-law, Jackie Wickersham, East Moline, host of nieces and nephews.
