Betty Jean Ellis

Betty Jean Ellis, 89, of East Moline, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.

Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2016, with Memorial Service beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd. East Moline, IL. Rev. Donald Knowles, officiant. Burial will be at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery.

Betty was born March 31, 1926, the daughter of Weber and Louise (Miller) Ziegler, in Luana, IA. She married Lloyd G. (Curly) Ellis on September 11, 1947 in Postville, IA.

She worked as a cashier at Eagles Food Stores for 20 years, retiring in 1987. Betty enjoyed meeting her friends at HyVee every morning for coffee. She enjoyed her friends at Hope Creek, they played bingo and loved to visit. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline, IL.

Betty is survived by daughters, Dawn (Terry) Ziegler, Moline, IL, Shari Herron, San Diego, CA; daughter-in-law, Brenda Ellis; brothers, Donald (Mary) Ziegler, Moline, IL, Wayne (Aurielle) Ziegler, Davenport, IA; sister, Wilma (Paul) Barnhart, Garnavillo, IA; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lloyd, son, Kim, 2 brothers, Weber and Darwin.

Memorial may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline, IL.
