Bonita Kirklin Obituary

Bonita BonniePearl Kirklin, 77, of Moline, IL, died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at her home following an extended illness. Cremation will be accorded and per her wishes there will be no services. Arrangements are being handled by Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline, IL.

Bonita Pearl Kirklin was born March 5, 1937 in Cedar Rapids, IA, one of ten children, born to Zola Mae (Carney) and Milfred Leon Myers. She married her one and only love, Robert E. Kirklin, July 16, 1953 in Arkansas. Together they had 6 daughters, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

She had an excellent work ethic with top production at DeSaulniers Printing Company, Moline, IL from 1971 to 1988.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, providing Thanksgiving for more than 50 family members plus she often invited people that had no where to go on Christmas, Holidays and special event gatherings in their family home of 60 years.

In her earlier years, Bonnie enjoyed league bowling and Scotch Doubles with her husband and siblings. She enjoyed ceramics, sewing, family poker games and weekly bunco meetings. Later in life she enjoyed bingo and the casinos. She shared the love of gardening with her husband as they worked side by side in the yard.


Bonnie loved her family above all else. She was a beautiful woman, sweet, loving, caring and strength of character. She was kind, generous to all and like a second mother to many of the neighborhood children. Bonnie was always there to guide and be a best friend. When others hurt, she hurt, when others did not care, she cared. She was the backbone and pillar providing a strong, loving, caring and close knit family.

She is survived by her sisters, Dixie (Ron) Gilson, Pat Darringer, both of Cedar Rapids, IA, brothers, Jack (Donna) Myers, Moline, Jerry (Nell) Myers, Mississippi, daughters, Jacqueline Kirklin, Barbara Kirklin both of Bettendorf, IA, Dianna Kirklin Darif, Geneseo, Roxy Callahan, Terry (Jerry) Iams, both of Moline, Kathy Kirklin, and step-daughter, Sherri Morgan, both of Davenport, grandsons, Cody Wheeler, Walsenberg, CO, Michael (Kelly) Ransom, Davenport, Robert Griffin, and Noah Darif, Geneseo, Shaun Callahan, Moline, granddaughters, Tanya Wright, and Tamara Kirklin McCoy, East Moline, Kristie Wheeler, Colona, Abby Callahan, Moline, Molly Kirklin Bonderer, Bettendorf, Heidi Brown, Geneseo, great grandsons, Taylor Kirklin, Braxton Davis, Lincoln Callahan, all of Moline, Jackson Ransom, Jameson Ransom, both of Davenport, Thomas Wheeler, Bettendorf, Lee Penaflor Jr, Geneseo, great granddaughters, Shianne (Manuel) Martinez, Silvis, Sabrina Wheeler, Colona, Madeline Wheeler, Missouri, Alexandra Bolton, Hannah Callahan, Hailey Callahan, Zoe Callahan, Miyah Whitney, Makenna Whitney, all of Moline, Lillyin Seiber Ransom, Davenport, Angelica Kirklin Patricio, Alexis Penaflor, and namesake Bonita Pearl Darif, all of Geneseo, great great grandsons, Alex Kirklin, Moline, and soon to be born, Abel Martinez, Silvis, great great granddaughters, Arika Kirklin, Moline, and Brylee Weig, Geneseo, several nieces, nephews and other family, friends and loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert E. Kirklin who passed March 11, 2014, her parents, brothers, Robert, Bud, Donald, Kenneth Myers and sister, Jeanne Corl.

Prior to passing, she said she saw the angels, "they are all my kids".
