Charles Williamson, 85, of East Moline, passed away Wednesday, May 12, at Genesis Illini Campus, Silvis.
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 19, at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., 1902-3rd Avenue East Moline. Rev. P.W. Harris will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Visitation will be 10:00-12:00 p.m. prior to services.
Charles Williamson was born April 25, 1936 in Valdosta, Georgia; the son of James Walter and Carrie Mae (Austin) Williamson. Charles was a graduate of UTHS class of 1955. He was a tremendous athletic in football and track, which gave him a place in the UTHS Hall of Fame. Charles married Chloe Ann Thomas, June 14, 1958 in Rock Island. She passed July 21, 2009. He started working at fourteen, working as a paper boy. Over the years, Charles worked for Hyman Furniture, Rock Island, Silvis Railroad, and John Deere Foundry, East Moline. At John Deere, he was an iron pourer, retiring October 1992 after thirty-five years of service.
Charles was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, East Moline. He was a trustee of the church and a member of the Thumens Fellowship Choir. Charles was a member of the neighbor watch program. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, and restoring old cars.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Thomas Williamson, East Moline, James (Mamie) Williamson, Davenport, his daughter, Voniciles (Cookie) Williamson, East Moline, his daughter-in-law, Trudi Williamson, eight grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and special friend, Joyce Fisher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Chuckie Williamson, his grandsons, David Knolan, and Rondell McDowell, his brothers, Wesley, Willie and Major Williamson, and his sister, Cora Nelson.
