Charles E. "Charlie" Brown Jr., 53, of East Moline, passed away August 13, 2018 at the home of his mother.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services. Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline is assisting the family. A celebration of life will be held at Leisure Time, East Moline, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 19. Memorials may be made to the family at Leisure Time.
Charlie was born August 28, 1964, in Moline to Charles E. Brown, Sr. and Janet Kipp Brown Burkett. He was a professional boxer.
At the age of seven, Charlie started boxing under Bert Visconi. He also loved to play baseball in his early years. He wrestled while attending UTHS. Charlie's accomplishments were Silver Gloves, Golden Gloves, Olympic Training Camp, and US International Team all before turning pro. Charlie was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame this year.
Charlie is survived by his mother; Janet Brown Burkett, East Moline; his father, Charles (Tracy) Brown Sr., East Moline: sister: Georgia Peterson, Moline; half-brother, Benjamin Brown, East Moline, children; Kristina Ziegler, Silvis, Lucas Brown, NC, Sabrina Brown, Moline; grandchildren, Payten Ziegler, Keagen Ziegler, Korben Ziegler, Piper Ziegler, Ezryn Brown; nieces and nephew, Bree Warner, Jacob Peterson, Jeffrey Peterson, Madison Warner, Hudson Warner, Kippton Warner, Carson Peterson, Riley Peterson, and Myles Peterson.
Charlie was preceded in death by his stepfather, Charles "Barney" Burkett.
