David Kent Nelson

David K. Nelson, 76, of East Moline, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd, 1902-3^rd Avenue East Moline, IL.  Pastor Steve Baker will officiate.  Burial will follow at The National Cemetery, Rock Island.  Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2022 at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Nelson family.

David Kent Nelson was born August 21, 1946 in Moline, Illinois; the son of Einar Nels Nelson and Mildred Elizabeth (Olson) Nelson.  He was a 1964 graduate of Moline High School and Black Hawk College. He was a US Navy veteran.  Dave worked for The Department of Human Services, State of Illinois, as a caseworker, retiring in 2005.  He was a member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles, and VFW.  David served in communications for the Department of Defense operations during the Apollo XI mission, the first Moon landing flight in July, 1969.  He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Fighting Illini, and Celtics.  Dave loved to golf and play pool.  Dave will always be remembered as being the first to help in any situation.   He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 34 years, Joneva Nelson, of East Moline, his children, Nicholaus Hansen, East Moline, Daniel Hansen, East Moline, his sister, Phyllis Wilson, Wichita, Kansas, his brother, Dr. Don Nelson, Tulsa, Oklahoma, his grandchildren, Shane, Angelo, Brady, Jacob, and Andrew, 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
