Dean Butterfield, 86, of East Moline, IL, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at his home. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 13, at the Rock Island National Cemetery, meeting at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd, East Moline, at 1:15 p.m. to process to cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the East Moline American Legion Post 227.
Dean was born December 14, 1925 in Iowa City, IA, the son of Gail and Kathryn Butterfield. He married Merlyn Heald, February 12, 1944, in Coeur d Alene, Idaho.
He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1985, after 25 years of service as a program analyst for AMCCOM. He belonged to the Sebring Christian Church, Sebring, FL. He was an all around handyman who loved remodeling and helping other people with their projects and needs.
Survivors include sons, Timothy (Jan) Butterfield, Des Moines, IA, Kent (Dana) Butterfield, Moline, Terry (Linda) Butterfield, Sebring, FL, Robert (Amanda) Butterfield, Oswego, IL, sisters-in-law, Ruth (Elliot ) Park, Sheldon, IL, and Sharon (Jim) Glaze, Ooltewah, TN, 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren,4 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lyn, parents, and sister, Gerry Allen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mooseheart Orphanage in Mooseheart, IL.
