Diana Polk Obituary

Diana D. Polk, 69, of East Moline, IL, died Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. Visitation will be 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline, with the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Donald Levitt will lead the rosary. Dianas visitation will be 2 hours before services at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Champaign, IL on Friday, December 28, 2012 with burial following at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Champaign.

Diana was born in Decatur, Alabama, the daughter of Herman and Ruth (Ewing) Blackwell. She earned her Masters Degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Illinois and was Senior Executive Research Librarian for Deere and Company for 26 years, retiring in 2000.

She was very involved in the community. Diana was on the board of the Rock Island County Health Dept., Chairman of the board of directors for Project NOW, was in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and QC Negro Heritage Society.

She is survived by her son, Henry, East Moline, brothers, Robert (Caroline) Blackwell, Springfield, IL, Victor (Kim) Blackwell, Chicago, IL, sisters, Dorothy Coleman, Milwaukee, WI, Doris (Stanley) Butts, Champaign, IL, Wilma Julia Conwell, Cleveland, OH, Clara Jean (Samuel) Johnson, Decatur, AL, Mabel Blackwell, Chicago, Ave Blackwell Alvarado, Champaign, IL, and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Duane W. Blackwell and William Nelson Blackwell.
