Dick Howard Obituary

Mr. Dick N Howard, 85 of Hampton, IL died February 24th with family by his side at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. Visitation will be Thursday, February 28, 11:00 1:00 p.m. at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline, with services following at 1:00 p.m. Chaplain John Yarian will officiate. Burial will be in Hampton Township Cemetery.
Dick was born December 16 1927 at home in Rock Island the son of Harry and Nida Howard. He married Shirley Wood February 2nd, 1957 in Palmyra, MO. She preceded him in death in 1988. Dick joined the Navy in 1944 and served aboard the USS PORTOBEGO, USS BOUNTIFUL, and USS REFUGE in the Asian-Pacific Theater earning the Asian-Pacific Victory Ribbon.
Dick loved motorcycles and traveling the country with Shirley right beside him. Dick also liked to roller skate and felt he skated so much he had done enough to have skated around the world. Dick was a welder and worked at Moline Consumers formerly Bridge and Iron from 1948 and retired in 1999.
He was survived by one son Sam and Vicki Howard and two daughters Vicki Lynn and Robert Coffey, and Marla and CDR Dan McGuinness, grandchildren, Marcie Flores, and Jeffery Flores, both of Newmarket, NH, Mitchel Guinn, and Amanda Guinn, both of Maryland, Maggie Guinn and Danny McGuinness, both of Virginia Beach, VA and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother Donald, 2 sisters Harriet and Evelyn and one Great-Grandson Dayden Alexander
