Doris Jayne Patterson

Doris “Cookie” J. Patterson, 69, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at UnityPoint Health, Rock Island. 

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., 1902-3^rd Avenue East Moline.  Rev. P.W. Harris will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral. Memorials may be made to the family.

Doris Jayne Patterson was born July 22, 1952 in Moline, Illinois; the daughter of Dolphus Augusta and Lizzie Mae (Simmons) Patterson.  Doris was a 1970 graduate of United Township High School, East Moline and a graduate of Western Illinois University, Bachelor of Arts.  She worked for the US Post Office after high school.  After her college graduation, Doris was employed with the Rock Island School System as a sub teacher until her retirement.   She was a creative writer.  Doris filled many notebooks with her writings.  She loved to bake, “anything sweet”.  Doris enjoyed singing for both family and church.  She sang in the choir for First Presbyterian and Greater Antioch Baptist Church. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Donella Jones, Miami, Florida, Donell Patterson, Rock Island, and Donald Patterson, Key West Florida, her grandchildren, Deonte E. Jones, Devon D. Hickman, Devin Hickman, Zola Mae J. Jones, Donya J. Patterson, Eliyah N. Patterson, Elizabeth Patterson, and Adonis Patterson, her siblings, Dolphus Patterson, East Moline, Annie Walton, East Moline, Lois (Nelson) Johnson, Moline, Rose (Lonnie) Reed, Atlanta, Georgia, Jerome Patterson, Rock Island, and David Baker, Davenport, Iowa, good friends, Wendy Bragg and James Pulliam.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
