Geneva J Harris

Geneva J. Harris, 76, of East Moline, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at the University of Chicago Medicine, Chicago.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 11, at 12:00 p.m. at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, East Moline. The Rev. P. Wonder Harris will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to the funeral, 10:00-12:00 on Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Hampton Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Geneva Howard was born September 14, 1941, the daughter of Johnnie, Sr. and Ethel Mae Wilson Howard in Mount Bayou, Mississippi. She married Thomas L. Harris in Cook County, Illinois. Geneva was employed at the former State Mental Health Hospital as a supervisor. She was later employed with the former Ardens Jewelry, Moline. Geneva also worked with Robert Young Assisted Living and Bethany Youth Home facilities where she retired from. She was a member of the Eastern Star Organization at an early age. She was a very strong, family oriented woman. She gave her ear (and strong opinion) to any and every one that crossed her path. She was a woman who loved to share with friends and family. Geneva loved to shop and cook. Her grandchildren were most dear to her.

She is survived by sons; Roderick (Sandra) Harris, East Moline, and Victor Harris, Indiana; daughters, Patricia Harris, East Moline, LaShonda Harris, South Holland, Chhabria (Mario) Harris, East Moline, Sheila Harris, Wisconsin, and Rita Harris, Chicago; grandchildren, Enriquia "Stasha", Sandy "Deekers", Nasira "Zira", Nasir "Naz"; great grandchildren, Marcius, Lil' Mario, Myzeah "Lollipop", and Zaidyn T "Cupcake"; brothers, Eddie (Frances)Howard, East Moline, Elbert "Peter" Howard, Moline, sister, Eldridge "Sallye" Howard, Mississippi; host of nieces and nephews; best friends, Claudia Giles and Leona Arku.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Thomas, daughter; Valerie Rene, son; Antisia Thomas, sister; Charlene, brothers; Johnny Jr., Earl, Andrew "Bluie", Melvin, Johnny.
