George Ochoa Jr. Obituary

George C. Ochoa, Jr., 81 a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026, at his home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday April 9, 2026 at Divine Mercy Parish, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Silvis, Illinois. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 3:30 p.m Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, East Moline. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, Illinois.

George was born November 21, 1944 in Crystal City, Texas; the son of George A. Ochoa, Sr. and Dominga Ochoa.  George learned the value of hard work early as a laborer in the fields—a period that forged his tough as nails work ethic. On April 29, 1962, he married the love of his life, Selfia (Villarreal) Ochoa. Together, they shared nearly 64 years of marriage built on resilience and deep devotion. In 1966, they moved to East Moline, Illinois, where George began a long, dedicated career at John Deere. He was a man who didn’t just talk about providing; he showed up every day to ensure his family had everything they needed.

While known for his grit, George’s heart was most visible as “Papa”. While playing checkers, sharing stories of his collectibles, or taking neighborhood walks, he taught his family that love is often the quiet act of being the rock everyone can lean on.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Selfia; his sons: Jorge (Kelly), Rolando (Brenda), Herman (Carla), Graviel, and Armando, daughter-in-law, Marissa Ochoa, and a fatherly relationship with Diana, Adriana, and Alberto (Rosaura) Moreno. He leaves a vibrant legacy of 17 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his sister Rosamaria Pena and many nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Josefina, his mother Dominga and his son, Eduardo (Lalo).
