George “Dallas” Pottinger III, 87, of Davenport, IA, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport IA.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Davenport Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Davenport, IA. Visitation will be two hours prior to services. Pastor Gil Webb will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Seventh-Day Adventist Church building fund.
George Dallas Pottinger III was born December 20, 1935; the son of George Dallas Pottinger, Sr. and Sudie Mae (Samuels) Pottinger. He was a graduate of Central High School, Louisville, Kentucky, class of 1953. He married the love of his life, Judith Maddox, December 24, 1970 in Omaha, NE. Dallas worked 30 years as an Industrial Specialist for the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 2013.
He was a member of Calvary Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Davenport where he was the organist for over 50 years, and Good News Singers Chorale group. Dallas enjoyed playing tennis, ping-pong, and basketball. Music was a great love. His titles were husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather, great friend, and good lister. Dallas will be remembered as someone that loved a good conversation. He was a generous man who would help anyone in need. Dallas was a great role model.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Judith Pottinger, his children, Debra (Ron) Gay, Donna (Richard) Evans, Darius (Sandra) Pottinger, Derwin Pottinger, Sr., Dion (Jonie)Lawrence all of Milwaukee, WI, Lori (Johnnie) Reed Charlotte, NC, 26 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his children, Terry Moore, George Dallas IV, Michael, Jacquelyn, Dwight Delton, and Duranal Clark Pottinger, and his brother, John William Wesson.
