Harriette Gillespie Obituary

Harriette R. (Cox) Gillespie died September 7, 2012 at her home in Hampton.

Harriette was fourth and last born to Charles and Ivy Cox on November 23, 1920 in Hampton.

She married John Gillespie on November 10, 1942 in Waycross, GA and moved back to Hampton after his release from the USAF as a captain. He died in 1986. "I have lived in our home since 1947 Heavens!"

"We had four children, James B., Patrick C., Dennis M., and Rebecca (Gould), deceased 2007)"

Harriette was a charter member of these organizations: Hampton PTA, Hampton Fire Auxiliary, Hampton Historical Society, and member of the Hampton United Methodist Church. She was a Cub Scout Den Mom, and a visiting helper at the metal hospital in East Moline.

"Ive been blessed with a great family. Even though Becky is gone from this earth, I feel that the time I had with her was great, though it was too short. Im sure the rest of the family feels the same. Though shes gone, there are many many good deeds and loving memories she left with us most of all her two daughters and a very nice husband. I believe if I asked Tom to do anything for me, he would, just as my own sons would."

"James Brian, my oldest son, is very talented an artist and designer. Hes traveled worldwide and resides in Centennial, CO." He and Charlotte have two sons and two daughters (one deceased) along with 8 grandchildren.

"Patrick Rick" is my rock. He lives nearby and is ready to help me with everything." He and Anita have one son.

"Dennis Matthew is a very successful dentist in Ottumwa, IA. He is very skilled at woodworking as well." He and Lisa have four children and three grandchildren.

"No one could have a better family. I am truly grateful for them."

Besides her parents, Harriette was preceded in death by husband, John and their daughter, Rebecca. Harriettes brother, Everett and two sisters, Cornelia and Charmain also preceded Harriette.

Harriettes family extends a special thanks to Rachael McChurch of Hampton, who has been a very devoted caregiver and friend.

Harriette requested cremation. A memorial service will be held on September 23 at 1 pm in Hampton Township Cemetery. Contributions may be given to the Hampton Methodist Church.
