Harry W Bolinger

Harry W. Bolinger, 96, of Colona, Illinois, passed away Monday, November, 11, 2024.

A Visitation will be held at 4:00-5:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline.  Funeral services will follow at 5:00 p.m. The minister will be Bill Rossow.  Military Honors will be conducted by the Colona American Legion Honor Guard after services.  Cremation rites will be accorded after services and a private burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Colona American Legion Post 1233. 

Harry was born March 19, 1928 to Noble and Clara (Wine) Bolinger in Onarga, Illinois.  Harry grew up in the Disciples of Christ (Congressional) Church with his father, Noble, being the Minster of the Congregation.  His mother, Clara, was a longtime Colona school teacher.  Harry served in the US Army and was part of the occupation forces in Japan at the end of World War II. Following an honorable discharge, he worked at the Farmall Works, Rock Island, and Amtech, East Moline.  He married his high school sweetheart, Elaine Olds of Rock Island, Illinois.  Harry loved golf and was a very accomplished player, winning many tournaments in  the Quad City region.  Harry made many friends easily with his dry wit, rakish smile, and Frank Sinatra charm.   He had a deep love for children.  Harry will be recognized as a gentleman and one of mankind’s most giving person.  He tried

 to help anyone that asked him for help and he would put his needs on hold.  Harry’s life touched so many, and his giving had no end.  Jesus will have a special place for this man. 

He is survived by his niece, Martha Bolinger, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a “chosen” son, John Swan, Colona and his family.

Harry is preceded in death by his parents, Noble and Clara Bolinger, his brother, John Bolinger, and his sister-in-law, Gerry Bolinger.
