Irene J. (Townsend) Bachman, 91, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg, Illinois, after a lengthy battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family services will be held at a later date. Final resting place will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery.
Irene Joyce Townsend was born June 23, 1933 in Silvis, Illinois to Phillip and Mable (Taylor) Townsend. She was a graduate of United Township High School. Irene later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, receiving a honorable discharge in 1953. Irene went on to marry Franklin Bachman, and together they had three children: Steve, Ann, and Cynthia. Once her children were older, Irene returned to school and earned a degree in Psychology from Saint Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa. Following retirement, Irene and Frank moved to Umatilla, Florida. He passed in December 1979.
Irene is survived by her children: Steve (Deborah) Bachman, of Smithville, Arkansas, Ann (Charles) Ellis of Port Byron, Illinois, and Cindy (Keith) Siedentop of Lawrenceville, Georgia, stepdaughter, Debbie (Jim) Markley of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her sisters, Darlene, Shirley, and Patricia.
She was preceded in death by her parents Phillip and Mable, her husband, Franklin and nine of her siblings.
