Our beloved father, Jack Cook, 70, of Davenport, Iowa entered eternal peace on November 14, 2016 at Manor Care Health Services surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 20, 2016, at Gaines Chapel AME Church, East Moline, IL. Funeral Service will be Monday, November 21 at 11:00 a.m., at the church, Rev. Cyrus J. Burns, officiant. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery with military rites.
Jack was born on October 9, 1946 in Water Valley, MS, son of the late Locy and Annie Mae (Nicholson) Cook. Jack confessed hope in Christ at an early age and united with Everdale Missionary Baptist Church. Jack graduated from Davidson High School in 1966 where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He served in the United States Army from 1967-1969, stationed in Fort Lee, VA and completed a tour of duty in Germany.
Jack retired from Caterpillar in 1999 after 30 years of service as a machine operator. He was a long-standing member of the Knights of Pythias, most recently serving as the Grand Master at Arms of the Grand Lodge, bar manager and Chancellor Commander of the G.G. Stokes Lodge POUNDSIGN8 in Davenport. Jack was an avid Oakland Raiders, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Dodgers fan and enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Jack leaves to cherish his loving memory one son, Anthony J. Cook of Rochester, MN; two daughters, LaDeitra L. (Christopher) Higgins of Memphis, TN and Jacqueline E. Williams of Inver Grove Heights, MN; four grandchildren, Christalyn, Cemiya, Giovanni and Royal; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Jack in death were his parents, Annie Mae and Locy Cook; one sister, Ella Mae Adams; one brother, Sylvester Cook; and longtime companion, Tonnette Harris.
