Joseph A Teijido

Joseph Albert Teijido was born on August 27, 1949, son of Ruth Doellman Teijido and Jose M. Teijido in Quincy, IL. Visitation for Joe will be Monday December 19, 2016, 4:00 - 8:00pm with Rosary at 7:30pm at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline, IL with services on Tuesday December 20, 2016 at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline, at 10:00am. Fr. Fredi Gomez Torres will officiate. Burial will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, East Moline.

Joe attended Quincy Senior High School and the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1972 with a Bachelors degree in Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Science. While he was a student at the University of Illinois, he met Darlene Cacioppo, who was a clerical assistant in the Agricultural Engineering Department.

Joe and Darlene were married on October 20, 1973 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Champaign, and then moved to the Quad Cities.

Joe was preceded in death by: his wife Darlene Cacioppo Teijido, his father Jose Teijido, and his sister-in-law Janet Teijido.

Joe is lovingly remembered by survivors: his mother Ruth Doellman Teijido of Quincy, IL; brother Tom (Maureen Naughtin) Teijido of Pekin, IL; sister Dolores (Steve) Haschemeyer of Quincy, IL; daughter Susan (Jeff) Newsted and grandchildren Jacob and Isabella Newsted of Roselle, IL; daughter Christine Schuck and grandsons Anthony and Andrew Schuck of East Moline, IL; son Joseph and granddaughter Iris of Johnston, IA; son John of Wauwatosa, WI; son Matthew of East Moline, IL.

Joes profession was an important part of his life. He started his career in 1972 at International Harvester, East Moline, in the Product Engineering Department. In 1977 Joe left IH and moved to John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline. He spent his years at Harvester Works in the Product Development Center, designing and developing mechanical drives systems for combines and front end equipment. He reached the level of Senior Staff Engineer, and his name was well known in the engineering community at all Deere agriculture factories in the U.S., Europe, and Brazil. He was a mentor and a guide to many young engineers during his career, and he wrote many engineering standards that are being used today in future design work. Joe retired from John Deere Harvester Works in April 2010.

Joe was always interested to understand how a piece of equipment worked, and if it needed repair he took it as a personal challenge to get it repaired and working again. His most recent project was restoration of a 1951 Nash Rambler. He will be remembered as a talented story teller with a great sense of humor and hearty laugh.
