Joseph Leroy Westbrook

Joseph L. “Chico” Westbrook passed away, Saturday, May 28, 2022 in Snellville, GA at the age of 66. 

Visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., 1902—3rd Avenue, East Moline, IL.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Mt. Sinai Christian Fellowship, 4706 Northwest Blvd., Davenport, IA.  Pastor Larry Westbrook, Sr. will officiate. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Joseph was born March 2, 1956 in Moline, IL to Bishop Charles B. and Missionary Barbara J. (Williams)Westbrook, the 10th child of 11 children. He attended school in the East Moline School District.  Joseph was a 1974 graduate of United Township High School.  He was employed at John Deere Foundry; later as a Purchasing Agent for the City of Davenport.  Joseph also worked as a Home/School Liaison and PE Instructor at Thurgood Marshall Learning Center, Rock Island, IL. and for Hahn Ready-Mix, Davenport, IA.

Joseph was also a member of the Original Westbrook Singers; a gospel family recording group made up of his five sisters and five brothers.  He was a vocalist and percussionist for the group. Joseph had a very pleasing smile with a magnetic personality.  He could hold a conversation with anyone because he never met a stranger. Joseph just loved to make others laugh.  He loved and was there for his children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his five children; Carmeron, Davenport, IA,  Armon,  Lynwood, IL, Shabreca, Snellville, GA,  Kenton,  Davenport, IA, Shakiel, McKinney, TX,  his five grandchildren; Jashon, Jaida, A’niya,  Amari, and Armon, Jr,  his siblings; Rochelle Jenkins, La June Johnson, Brenda Joyce (Eddie) Lee, Kenneth (Elaine) Westbrook, Dennis (Ollie) Westbrook,  Pastor Larry (Lady Janice) Westbrook, Delores (Joseph) Tingle, Gary (Carol) Westbrook, and Cynthia (Raymond) Bryson,  host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a very special cousin, Gloria Estridge, Rock Island, IL, special friends;  Dushon Brown,  Vanessa Benson, Pam Pillar McBride,  Natalie, Connie, Alfred, Hat,  Mose, Syd, Howard, Robert, and Larry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles B. Westbrook, Jr. (a.k.a. David Israel), his brother-in-laws , Pastor Sumner Jenkins and Deacon James Johnson, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
