Joyce B. McKay, 74, of Hampton, Illinois died unexpectedly at her home, February 22, 2023.
There will be a private, family graveside service in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the the Hampton Historical Society P.O. Box 31, Hampton, Illinois, 61256.
Joyce was born September 22, 1948 in White Plains, New York; the daughter of Judson and Mildred (Hall) Benjamin. She married Thomas R. McKay on September 4, 1971 in Pocantico Hills, New York. Joyce earned a B.A. from Indiana University, an M.A. from Cooperstown Graduate Program of the State University of New York, and a Ph.D. from Brown University.
Joyce was a kind and quiet person. She spent a career as an archeologist and architectural historian. In 2010, Joyce received a Preservation Achievement Award from the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance. In retirement, she volunteered for the Rock Island County Historical Society and the Hampton Historical Society.
Joyce is survived by her husband of fifty one years, Tom, her son, Ben, her son, and daughter-in-law, Chris and Caroline, her grandson, Anthony, her sister Elean Robson, and her brother, Jeff Benjamin.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
