Lois Brake Obituary
Lois Jean Brake, 88, Rock Island, IL, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Clarissa C. Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.
Members of her immediate family were with her during her final hours.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A service honoring Loiss life is planned for 11 a.m. on Monday, April 27, at Community Christian Church in Moline, IL. Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, LTD. is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Friendship Manor, Rock Island, IL, or to Community Christian Church, Moline, IL.
Lois Jean Greim was born March 7, 1927, in Moline, IL, the daughter of LeRoy (Roy) Greim and Leota (Youd) Greim. She graduated from Moline High School in 1945. She married John B. Brake on April 17, 1948. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Lois started a long career of working outside the home as a secretary for Bear Manufacturing, Moline, IL. Later, she and her husband, John, owned and operated a Ben Franklin Store, which initially was in Rock Island, IL, then relocated to Geneseo, IL.
The couple also owned and operated Heartland Crafts and Different Strokes Mini-Golf in Geneseo, IL. Later, their sons, Kevin and Keith, joined them in running the operations, making it a true family business.
Lois especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Amber, whom she loved dearly. She also enjoyed working with handicrafts, doing floral arranging and spending time with her dogs.
Lois is survived by her sons, Keith (Linda), Montezuma, IA: Kevin (Vickie), Moline, and her granddaughter, Amber McDowell, Shoreview, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Robert.
