Mabel Darlene Cacioppo Teijido was born on February 12, 1950, daughter of Hazel Skaff Cacioppo and John A. Cacioppo in Champaign, IL. Visitation for Darlene will be Thursday, December 19, 2013, 4:00 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline, IL with services on Friday, December 20, 2013 at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Gregory Josefiak will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, East Moline.
She attended Champaign Central High School and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. She then worked as a clerical assistant at the U.S. Geological Survey Department and the Agricultural Engineering Department at the University of Illinois in Champaign.
She married Joseph A. Teijido on October 20, 1973 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Champaign and then moved to the Quad Cities with Joe.
She will be remembered for her zest for life, generous spirit, and unwavering focus on the happiness and welfare of others.
Darlene is lovingly remembered by survivors: her mother Hazel Cacioppo and sister Charlotte Lorenz of Champaign, IL; husband Joe and son Matthew both at home in East Moline, IL; daughter Susan (Jeff) Newsted and grandchildren Jacob and Isabella Newsted of Roselle, IL; daughter Christine Schuck and grandsons Anthony and Andrew Schuck of East Moline, IL; son Joseph and granddaughter Iris of Johnston, IA; son John of Wauwatosa, WI.
Darlene was very active in various church activities in the Quad Cities. She started the Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Marys Catholic Church in East Moline and remained an active leader as the ministry was transferred to St. Anne and Our Lady of Guadalupe Churches.
She was co-chairwoman of the Secret Sister group at St. Anne/Our Lady of Guadalupe Churches for two years and remained an active member.
She was involved in various Catholic School activities as her five children attended St. Marys Grade School, Seton Elementary and Middle Schools and Alleman High School.
She was an active member of the Chicago North Shore Group of the Saint Francis DeSales Association. She traveled many times to the Chicago area to participate in their meeting and retreats. She was consecrated as a Daughter of Saint Francis DeSales in March of 1993. She served as the editor of the Saint Francis DeSales Association monthly news letter The Salesian Bond for a number of years. She was an associate member of the Saint Francis DeSales Secular Institute attending a number of their meetings and retreats in Philadelphia, PA as well as traveling to their world wide meeting in Munich Germany in 2011. Through her devotion to Saint Francis she was involved in the spiritual life of acquaintances all over the world.
