Marcella “Marcy” Vallejo, 87, of East Moline passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Hope Creek Nursing and Rehab, East Moline, Illinois
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am. Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Christ The King Catholic Church, Moline, Illinois. A rosary will be said 30 minutes before mass. Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline, Illinois. The celebrant will be Rev. Donald Levitt.
Marcella was born January 31, 1935 in Goodland, Kansas, the 4th child of 14 children; the daughter of Natividad and Harriet (Masquat) Vallejo. Her mother was an American Indian from the Kickapoo-Potawatomi tribe and her father was from Mexico. She started working at 16 washing dishes at hotels and restaurants. Marcella worked for 22 years for the Rock Island Lines, Silvis as a laborer cleaning diesel locomotives. Marcella was a resident of Hope Creek Care Center almost 8 years. During her stay she was featured as a “Resident Spotlight”. The following article was written. “Marcella enjoyed living at Hope Creek because the people were so friendly. She enjoyed a variety of activities and her favorites are playing games and music programs. During some music programs it was hard to keep Marcella in her seat. She loved to dance. Marcella had a beautiful smile that we just loved to see!”
Those left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Sally Riley, Silvis, Lucy Moody, Davenport, Anna (Warren) Hallstrom, Little Rock, Arkansas, Rudy (Debbie) East Moline, and Joey Vallejo, Rock Island, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Maxine Vallejo, Theresa Mahan, Mary Ann Roberts, Petra Vallejo, Pedro Vallejo, Nathaniel “Sonny” Vallejo, Angelo Vallejo and Julia Vallejo.
