Mario Steed Yancey

Mario S. Yancey, 51, of Rock Island, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023 in Rock Island.

Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made for his daughter, Mariohna Yancey’s education fund. 

Mario Steed Yancey was born September 2, 1971 in Oberlin, Ohio; the son of Perry A. Yancey and Barbara (McHenry) McCowan.  He attended Rock Island High School.  Mario had a lawn service which he worked at till the time of his passing.  He married Tanishia Nicholson December 10, 2008 in Muscatine, Iowa. Mario was an outdoor person; he enjoyed fishing, nature walks, bike rides, and traveling.  At home, he enjoyed family card games, playing dominos, and cooking.  Mario was known for being very precise with his cleaning skills in the kitchen.  He enjoyed DIY shows, crime shows, and music especially the group “Journey”.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Tanishia N. Yancey of Rock Island, his children, Cedreahna Kennedy of Texas, Cetasia Kennedy, Rionna Yancey, and Riajah Yancey, all of Davenport, Johnnieah Campbell and Mariohna Yancey, both of Rock Island, his grandson, Gi’Vahni N. Thomas, Davenport, his father, Perry A. Yancey of Ohio, his brother, Paris A. Yancey of Peoria, IL, a host  of nieces, nephews, cousins,  and friends

He is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Ann McCowan, his G’ma, Glodeen "Gloria" D. Estridge, his brother, Brian Yancey, his uncles, Howard McHenry, Herman McHenry, and Dwight McHenry.
