Mary Hampes, 100, of Moline, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, IL.
Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2019 at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., 1902-3rd Avenue East Moline. A eulogy will be at 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Shriners Children’s Hospital.
Mary was born September 21, 1918 in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Peter Watson and Helen Provatakis Watson. She married Louis Hampes 1941 in Chicago. He preceded her in death 1989. Mary was a receptionist/secretary for Stern-Walters Advertising Agency, Chicago, last working in 1989.
Mary was a member of the St. James Presbyterian Church, Chicago, for many years. She loved tending to her flowers and taking day trips to Galena and White Pines. Mary enjoyed reading, watching TV, shopping and eating out. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, William and Anita Hampes, East Moline; grandson, Matthew Hampes, East Moline; granddaughter, Elizabeth Hampes (Jason Hill), Moline, great granddaughter, Isabella Rose Hampes-Hill, Moline, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Louis Hampes, daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and Randall Schoenegge, grandson, Andrew Hampes, brothers and sister-in-laws, Louis and Ellen Watson, John and Connie Watson, sisters and brother-in-laws, Katherine and Paul Jamesson, Colleen and Charles Mansfield.
