Mary E. Lacey-Jones, 91, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023 at her home.
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2023 at Gaines Chapel AME, East Moline. There will be a visitation two hours prior to services. Pastor Cyrus Burns will officiate. Burial will follow at The Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Gaines Chapel AME.
Mary Gladden was born February 11, 1932: the daughter of Hugh and Luvonia (Walker) Gladden in Chattanooga, TN. Mary was a graduate of Howard High School, Madam CJ. Walker’s School of Cosmetology and Black Hawk College. She married John L. Lacey. He preceded her in death. At eighteen, Mary joined Phillip Temple CME Church where she served on the Usher Board. She moved to Rock Island in 1972. At that time, Mary became a member of Gaines Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, East Moline. She was very active in several auxiliaries at Gaines. In 1974, Mary joined Marion Temple 1186 Daughters of Elks, East Moline. She was a member of Illinois Wisconsin Association. Mary also enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. She married Paul Jones February 24, 1990. He passed October 1, 2008. Mary worked at Case IH, as an assembler, retiring in 1989.
Mary is survived by her son John (Debbie) Lacey, Loraine, Ohio, sister, Almeta Jackson, Chattanooga, TN, grandchildren, Tanisha Lacey, Delano Lacey, Shawnika (Ian) Westerfield, and Sashene Lacey, eleven great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, host of nieces, nephews, and life long friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Bernard Lacey, her granddaughter, Bettina Lacey, her sisters, Leona Landman, Dorothy Tazewell, Isella McGill, and Cora Gladden, her brothers, Edward Gladden, and Lonnie Gladden.
