Richard "Bo" L. Warden Sr., 82, of East Moline, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at his home. Visitation will be Sunday, January 22, 2012, 3:00 - 6:00 p.m., at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline, with services Monday, January 23, at 11:00 a.m., at Gaines Chapel AME Church, East Moline. Rev. Adrian Johnson will officiate. Burial is in Hampton Township Cemetery, Hampton, IL.
Richard was born July 9, 1929 in Fayette, MO to William M. and Margaret (Darby) Warden. He was in Industrial Relations with John Deere Harvester for 23 years, retiring in 1984. He married Alma M. Trice on January 6, 1962 in East Moline and just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary!!!
His love for music showed by his talents and abilities that he shared with his community. He was a well known musician throughout the Quad City area and was the leader of several bands throughout his lifetime. He moved to Kewanee, IL at the age of 12 and in 1962 became a resident of East Moline, IL until his death. He was a member of Gaines Chapel AME Church and served as a minister of music. He was also a member of the Steward Board at Gaines Chapel. He served as a minister of music for St. Paul/New Journey AME Church for the last 14 years. Bo served as an alderman in East Moline during the early 70s. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Alma, daughters, Jeannette Warden-Atkins, Rita L. Cunningham, Francine Warden, Rhonda L. Warden, all of East Moline, Annette Chambers, Littleton, CO, sons, David (Sonia) Warden, Lakewood, CO, Dicky Warden, San Diego, CA, stepbrother, Willie Stevenson Jr., Rock Island, IL, grandchildren, Tyson R. Warden, Roderick V. Atkins II, Lawan Cunningham, Daylia L. Warden, Damien L. Warden, Brittany M. Warden, Nathaniel L. Warden, Terrence Warden, William P. Warden, Courtney Hostert, Matthew Hostert, Danielle Hostert, Nicole Warden, 7 great grandchildren, several cousins in Fayette, MO, Des Moines, IA, California and Las Vegas, NV. He is preceded in death by his father and mother.
