A respected friend to many and a beloved father and spouse, Richard (Dick) Delmas Tittle, Sr. peacefully passed while at home in Rapids City, Illinois on Friday, June 21, 2024. He retired as EM Director of Maintenance Services after nearly 30 years. He proudly served 31 years the US Navy, honorably retiring as Seabees Master Chief E9. He was a member of VFW and EM American Legion.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, at The Rock Island National Cemetery. Dick was born January 2, 1932 in Golconda; the son of John D. and Mabel M (Anderson) Tittle. He was a 1950 graduate of Pope County High School, Golconda. He bravely enlisted in the US Navy in 1952 during the Korean War. He patrolled on the USS Juneau and rebuilt damaged airstrip at the Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan. Dick formed lifetime brotherhood with his shipmates. He met with Arsenal Seabees and YMCA buddies monthly at local restaurants.
Fondest memories: taking his grandchildren to explore the outdoor activities; riding ATC’s/dirt bikes and pond swimming on his 92 acres in Golconda. Dick enjoyed socializing while sitting with his restored antique tractor at shows.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Diane Tittle, his daughters, Kitty (Jim) Pauwels, Ginger (Ralph) Tesla, Vickie (Dennis) Gryp, and Valerie Davis, his sons, Richard (Kristi) Tittle, Jr. and Jason (Jen) Stahl, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Johnetta Schoonover and Leota Heathman. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brother-in-laws mother-in-law and father-in-law.
