Shirley Ann Downing was born December 26, 1943 in Moline; the daughter of Edson and Mariel (Gorzney) Downing.  She attended United Township High School. Shirley married Robert Eugene Arduser July 3, 1965.  She was employed as a dietician at the presently UnityPoint Health Trinity, Rock Island for 45 years where she made many friends.

Shirley loved shopping with her sister-in-law, Joyce Long.  She enjoyed having lunch with her sisters.  Shirley loved Elvis back in the day.  She was a NASCAR fan, watching with her brother-in-law, Tom Marckese.  Shirley was thrilled to have seen the Chicagoland race twice.

Shirley had the kindest heart.  She would do anything for anyone.  She never complained about a thing a day in her life.  Shirley always made a point to tell everyone she loved them.  She smiled right up until the end.  Her nephew, Denny Long, was a godsent to her in the years preceding her death.  He was truly like a son.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Audrey Ward, Colona, Judy Powers,  Moline, and Betty Marckese, Geneseo,  her nieces and nephews, Wendi (Scott) Jordan , Lori (Charlie) Stohl,  Kelly, Lori Thompson, Larry Blackwood, Larry Joel Wilson, Matt (Courtney) Conklin, Alissa (Miguel) Conklin,  Denny (Lana) Long, Kenny Long, Michael (Shelly) Long, Lisa (Randy) Wisong, Christina (Jeremy) Garner, Patrick Downing, Mark Downing, and Matthew Downing, and her sister-in-law,  Joyce Long.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Arduser, her brothers, Sonny Downing and Mick Downing, and her niece, Kim, and her brother-in-law, Dick Ward.

A special thank you to her niece, Alissa Conklin, who was an angel of mercy nursing Shirley through her final days.  Shirley called her “mother Hen”.  Special thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and Beacon of Hope Hospice who were so kind to her.
