Shirley Ann (Armstrong) Jones was born December 28, 1937, in McNeal Arkansas to the late Annie (Purifoy) Armstrong and Albert Armstrong. She grew up in Chidester, Arkansas and attended and graduated from Pleasant Hill High School. She departed this life on May 26. 2004.
Funeral services will be 12:00 P.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, East Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Pastor PW Harris will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorials can be made to the family for a scholarship fund in memory of Shirley Jones.
Shirley accepted Christ at an early age where she was baptized at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
In 1956, Shirley moved to Rockford, Illinois where she met the love of her life and married Roy C. Jones who preceded her in life. This matrimony lasted for 52 years and to this union three children were born: Patricia Elaine, Anthony Armstrong, and Shawn Allen. In 1959, she moved to Moline, Illinois and united with the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church family and remained a faithful tithing member.
Shirley a registered nurse, was employed at Lutheran Hospital, United Medical and Trinity Medical Center. She also served as the parish nurse at Mt. Zion Church. and worked with the nurses of the Quad City Area.
Upon moving to Cleveland, Ohio in 2007, She united with the New Light Missionary Baptist Church where she remained until the Lord called her home. A worker, she served with the Mother’s Ministry and Bible Study Meetings Ministry.
Shirley leaves to celebrate her life, a dedicated daughter, Patricia; an attentive son Anthony, and supportive son Retired Army Captain Shawn (Rose) (stepchildren Joseph, Bryan, Jamie and grandchildren Jasmine and Josiah). Her niece Brenda Hale (Harvey) who was like a daughter and her husband like a son. Brenda’s sons Justin and Chris would always send her flowers and call just to talk during holidays and when they were traveling throughout the country, also on special occasions. She has many nieces and nephews that are now living with an empty spot in their heart for “Mother Jones”.
