Sidney Moore Obituary

Sidney C. Moore, 73, of Moline, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline.  Rev. P. Wonder Harris will officiate.  Visitation will be two hours prior to services.

Sidney C. Moore was born in Picayune, Mississippi, November 13, 1951; the son of Claiborne and Gladys (Gibbs) Moore.  Sid was one of eleven children; Sid was number ten.  Claiborne and Gladys had no sisters or brothers, so Sid had no aunts, uncles, or cousins.

Sid would best be remembered as a loner.  He was constantly compared to by his siblings, by the local town folk, teachers and friends.  This bothered him and he became a very “independent” rebel.  Sid was competitive and though small in stature, played football in high school and college.  He graduated from Carver High School, Tupelo, Mississippi in 1969. Sid attended Alcorn College, Loram, Mississippi and graduated in 1974.

Sid came to the Quad Cities in the 1970’s.  He married Doreen Avitt in 1980.  They were blessed with a daughter, Nicole Christine, on January 2, 1982.  Sid bought multiple homes in the Quad Cities.  He worked for Deere and Company until his retirement in 2003.

Sid leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Nicole Moore-Abeyta, his son-in-law Joshua Abeyta, grandson, De Marcus Martinez, great grandsons, Malachi David and Jason Yae, brother Kenneth (Debbie) Moore, Loudon, Texas, sisters, Loretta Pittman, East Moline, Illinois, Clarice Williams, Warren, Mississippi, Norweda Carter, Den Ham Springs, Louisiana, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter, Elida Rayann “Lilly” Diaz, brothers, Roland Moore, Phillip Moore, and Donald Moore, sisters, Barbara Little, Phyllis Pryor and Sylvia Nicholson.

Today we say farewell to a loving father and grandfather, a free-spirited and kind brother and a doting uncle.  You will be missed.
