Sondra Carroll Obituary

Sondra “Kae” Carroll, 76, of East Moline, passed away Friday, December 6, 2024 at Celebrate of Moline.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, East Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.  Pastor P. W. Harris will officiate.  Burial will be at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Sondra Kae Carroll was born December 28, 1947 in Columbus, Ohio; the daughter of Aaron and Bessie (Smith) Carroll. She was a graduate of East High, Columbus, Ohio, class of 1967.  Kae, as she was loving known, proudly graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Social Welfare from HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Central State University in 1972; where she pledged Sigma Gamma Rho.  In 1978, Kae moved from Ohio to the Quad Cities.  She was the first Director of the Aldridge Early Learning Center for thirteen years.  Kae went from there to the Department of Children and Family Services, retiring in 2015.

Kae was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, East Moline, where she was youth coordinator, and the founder of Senior Saints. She was a member of the Hampton Township Cemetery Board and Black Families Conference. Kae enjoyed house plants, sunflowers, frogs, and the Oldies but Goodies R&B.

Kae was known to speak her mind…..freely!  She had a passion for helping others. Kae loved children and she was always looking out for their well-being.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Nicole Carroll, Moline, LaShonda Carroll, Moline, Kyle ”Chuck” Carroll, East Moline, Antonio “Tony”  Carroll (Natalie Zimmerman),  East Moline, and Angelique Carroll (Kiara Brown),  Davenport, her grandchildren: Jada Carroll, Jasmine Sanders, LaRayah Carroll, Kyley Carroll, Na’Ledge Simpson,  Na’im Simpson, Na’Saan Simpson,  and one on the way in May,  her nephews and nieces: Geoffrey Barnes,  Sr.,  Kevin Barnes, Dorcus Barnes-Mitchell, Keith Carroll, Monica Broadnax, and Aaron Carroll, Jr.,  her besties: Colleen Houston, Terra Fairburn, and Nanc Kinley. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Sharon Carroll-Barnes and Rita Carroll, and her brother, Aaron Carroll.
